Heron Hill Winery to Host Farmers’ Market

Beginning June 25, Heron Hill Winery in Hammondsport will host a farmers market on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. The market dovetails with the Wednesday happy hours at the winery’s Blue Heron Café Heron Hill Winerythat feature live music on the terrace from 5 to 7 p.m.

The market will be in the lower parking lot overlooking Heron Hill’s young Riesling vines with picturesque views of Keuka Lake. Wine sampling and sales will occur in the tasting room as usual.

Market visitors can expect to find heirloom vegetable plants, locally raised pork, chicken and beef, honey, a large variety of greens, cut flower bouquets and much more.

The Southern Tier Outdoor Show is slated for October 11-12, 2014 in Bath, NY. Dedicated to increasing awareness of the multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities available in New York State, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County welcomes vendors and exhibitors from all over the country to participate each October in this action-packed outdoor sports show.

Geared toward seasoned outdoorsmen, families and kids just getting into outdoor sports, the Southern Tier Outdoor Show offers excitement and entertainment for all ages. Wilkins Recreational Vehicles, Inc. hosts the entire show at their Route 415 location just a few miles from I-86, the Southern Tier Expressway.

The entry fee is just $5 per car, per day, which includes parking, shows, seminars and a program listing the weekend’s line-up of events and vendor information. From turkey calling contests to falconry shows and hunting demonstrations – you get it all for just $5 a car.

The 8th Annual Southern Tier Outdoors Show on October 11-12 in Bath, NY features an action-packed weekend of hunting and fishing demos, shooting expositions, gear tests and safety courses to showcase the range of outdoor recreation found in the Southern Tier of New York State.

This year, the event line-up of talent includes the Gould Brothers Exhibition Shooting, an exciting display of live shooting that promises to thrill the crowd with tricks such as a “one-handed pushup shot,” as well as an ATV Challenge Track for new riders to learn proper safety and technique.

This family friendly event will offer a full weekend of contests and demonstrations to keep everyone entertained. Kids will have the opportunity to win prizes with the indoor fishing pond or participate in the youth turkey calling contest, they can test their archery skills and even get up close and personal with birds of prey and a variety of exotic wildlife during Bwana Jim’s Wildlife Show, featuring owls, alligators, snakes and more.

Plan for a fun day out at the Southern Tier Financial Conference: Financial Education for Women by Women scheduled for October 25, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Center, 400 Park Ave., Corning. It will be great way to join other women as we learn how to improve our mind, body, and checkbook!

The keynote for the day will be Deanna Courtney, owner of Activate Wellness Naturally in Tupper Lake keynote speaker. She will speak on Stress Management and its Impact on your Health. Come learn about the science of healing called German New Medicine and the causes of 5,000+ diseases. She will help you understand the three stages of the healing process and ultimately learn how to prevent any future chronic disease. You will get in tune with the Mind-Body-Spirit connection.

The speakers for the day include:

  • Amy Irvine, CFP®, MPASSM and Caitlin Fuller will speak on Developing Your Plan for a Journey with Money (retirement, social security, insurance, investing, and estate).
  • Nancy Reigelsperger, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County financial educator will cover Dealing with Clutter: Emotional, Mental and Physical.
  • Nancy Williamson, ServU Credit Union, will talk about Protecting Your Credit Health & Identity.

Registration is from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. The conference will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed by a cocktail hour featuring Lakewood Vineyards. The cost of $25 per person ages 16 and older includes lunch, networking, the conference and the book Smart Women Finish Rich by David Bach. The day will include chair massages by Doralee Ennulat of Rejuvenating Day Spa, door prizes and other exhibitors.
